“The Great And Secret Show” by Clive Barker
Armageddon begins with a murder in the Dead Letter Office in Omaha, Nebraska. A lake that has never existed falls from the clouds over Palomo Grove, California. Young passion blooms as the world withers with war. The Great and Secret Show has begun on the stage of the world. And soon, the final curtain must fall.
My only exposure to Clive Barker prior to reading this was through the "Hellraiser" movies, which is to say I thought he was a straight blood and gore kind of guy. But I was happy to learn that he is quite the opposite. He manages to be thought-provoking, suspenseful, insightful, and fantastical all at once.
